Lo-manthang lies in a
geographically remote and
harsh environment on the top
of the world; the only
access is by foot or by
horses. The people are
compelled to migrate down to
fend off the severe cold in
their region in the winter.
Having taken into account
time and money wasted in
shifting up in summer and
down in winter; we have
settled down in Lakeside,
Pokhara to allow the
children to have some
continuity in education.
The present facility has
separate accommodation for
boys and girls in clean and
environmentally friendly
surroundings with proper
love, care, nutrition,
medical care and a complete
sense of family. Children
attend the local government
school. This year 15 of our
children will attend the
Tibetan school (S.O.S).
Tuition fees have been
kindly provided by the Tibet
Relief Fund from the UK (Tsering
Passang La).We hope to
eventually send all our
children to the same school
if they receive sufficient
sponsorship, as our children
need to learn the Tibetan
language as well as English.
As well as the school
syllabus, they are tutored
in Tibetan language and
culture at home. They are
also often taken out to see
and experience the outside
world. It is important to
guide the children through
various books, and we have
different storybooks to help
with this. However, we
currently do not have any
kind of Library facility.
Our resources are limited
and so would welcome
donations of more books in
different subjects to
enhance our children's
learning. Song and dance are
also taught at home.
