About Himalayan Children's Care Home
Himalayan Children's Care Home is a non-profit social organization registered with the Nepalese Government and affiliated to the Social Welfare Organization with the aim of preserving the rich cultural heritage and raising the socio-economic status of the Himalayan and needy people who are deprived of basic education and primary health care.
On 13th Nov 2006, The Himalayan Children's Care Home was founded with children from extremely deprived families living together under one roof to give them a better future. In order to survive, parents engaged their children in household activities such as fetching water, grazing the cattle, collecting firewood in all seasons, including the dead cold winter. Due to the harsh environment and poor quality of land, many people have dietary deficiencies and suffer from diseases. The Himalayan Children's Care Home ensures a better life with free education, health care, food and lodging for such children.
At present the home has 45 children aged between 5 and 16. They are from different villages in and around the Mustang region. Some of them are orphans; some have only one parent while others are from financially poor families who are not in a position to afford any fees. Himalayan Children's Care Home is aimed at providing a modern education and upbringing. We also aim to preserve the unique Tibetan culture and traditions that are currently on the brink of extinction. We wish our children to live together by developing respect, mutual understanding and love for nature.
